Last month's letters page. dominated as it was by that rather unseemly bout of verbal fisticuffs. between Mad Dog and Crazy Joe (handbags at 30 paces gentlemen if you please), meant that a letter by Peter Dixon putting forward a case for a column in ISIS devoted to CDR releases was somewhat overshadowed by events. It wasn't however entirely forgotten and a lot of time has been spent in the interim pondering the practicalities and implications of pursuingsuch a column.Galileo's Boots initially evolved in parallel with Mr Smith's column. (Cd being the digital' equivalent of the Vinyl Bootleg), with the purpose of documenting the appearance of Cd Boots from an 'artifact' collectable viewpoint. Recordables are. despite their physical appearance, more akin in their nature in DAT (a digital. recordable. Track indexed medium). and it's analogue cousin the Audio Cassette So, how are we to go about cataloguing a medium of potentially infinite variety? I'm open to suggestions and, indeed pretty desperate for some input. For now all I can suggest is that since the boundaries are so difficult to define maybe we shouldn't set any at all - at least initially If the problem is that we can't see the wood for the trees then let's let the column run with an open ended brief and see if any collectability pattern emerges, in essence considering for review anything and everything that passes our way. It's development will depend very much on feedback so if you'd like to put some thoughts down on paper (virtual or otherwise) I'm all ears/eyes..
